Electric pickup truck export to Jamaica

Jamaica is right-hand drive and requires a Trade Board import licence before a vehicle can be entered. We quote from a single unit for Jamaica — island markets buy in ones and twos, and an exporter with a ten-unit minimum order quantity is simply invisible to them.

What does Jamaica require?

Steering
Right-hand drive
Pre-export certificate
Trade Board import licence and Island Traffic Authority compliance
Issuing body
Trade Board Limited, Jamaica
Vehicle age rule
Age limits apply to used imports by category; new vehicles are unaffected
Ports and routing
Kingston (primary), Montego Bay
Sea or rail transit
32–40 days from Shanghai, usually transhipped via Panama or Kingston's own hub

How is duty assessed?

Import duty, special consumption tax, GCT and standard compliance fees apply on CIF value, and the compounded rate on vehicles is high by regional standards. Jamaica has signalled support for electric vehicle adoption in its energy policy; confirm the current treatment with your customs broker, because the special consumption tax is the line that moves.

We quote FOB China and CIF Jamaica only — never landed cost, because a duty change between order and arrival would make that number wrong. Confirm the current rate with your clearing agent before committing to an order.

Who is buying MAXUS vehicles in Jamaica?

Hotel and resort transport, utility and telecoms field teams, agricultural estates, and small commercial operators in and around Kingston and Montego Bay. Island electricity is expensive, so solar-plus-storage depot charging is close to standard practice on Jamaican commercial premises.

Which models can be registered in Jamaica?

Jamaica is right-hand drive, so the 8 models below are the eligible ones. Ordering the wrong steering is the single most expensive mistake in vehicle importing — the unit cannot be registered and cannot economically be returned.

Common questions about importing to Jamaica

Can I order a single vehicle for Jamaica?

Yes. One unit is a valid order. A single vehicle ships in a 20-foot container or shares a 40HQ with another buyer's unit; two units fill a 40HQ efficiently. Ro-Ro is available to Kingston, which is on a regular car-carrier rotation, but we usually recommend a container for the reason below.

Should I ship Ro-Ro or container to Jamaica?

Container. A Ro-Ro deck is ventilated to the sea air for the whole transit, and a 35-day crossing is long enough for salt spray to show on unprotected surfaces. The T90 EV's double-sided galvanised body helps, but it is not a substitute for keeping the vehicle in a box.

Does expensive island electricity kill the running-cost case?

It narrows it, and solar closes it. At Jamaican grid tariffs the energy saving against diesel is real but much smaller than in a cheap-electricity market. Solar-plus-storage depot charging restores most of the gap and is already common on Jamaican commercial premises for unrelated reasons, so the incremental cost is usually just the charge points.
