Electric pickup truck export to Chile

Chile is left-hand drive and homologates through 3CV, the Ministry of Transport's vehicle control centre. Chile has also run the region's most consistent electric vehicle policy — reduced import duty and exemption from Santiago's vehicle circulation restrictions — which materially improves urban fleet economics.

What does Chile require?

Steering
Left-hand drive
Pre-export certificate
Certificado de Homologación through 3CV
Issuing body
Centro de Control y Certificación Vehicular (3CV)
Vehicle age rule
Used-vehicle import is prohibited outside free zones; new vehicles are unaffected
Ports and routing
San Antonio, Valparaíso, Iquique (free zone)
Sea or rail transit
30–38 days from Shanghai, Ro-Ro or containerised

How is duty assessed?

Chile's free trade agreement with China eliminates customs duty on most Chinese-origin goods against a valid certificate of origin, leaving VAT as the principal charge. That single fact makes Chile one of the most favourable landed-cost markets on this site — but the certificate of origin must be correct, or the preference is lost.

We quote FOB China and CIF Chile only — never landed cost, because a duty change between order and arrival would make that number wrong. Confirm the current rate with your clearing agent before committing to an order.

Who is buying MAXUS vehicles in Chile?

Andean copper mining support fleets, agricultural and viticultural estates in the Central Valley, and Santiago corporate and municipal fleets taking advantage of the circulation-restriction exemption.

Which models can be registered in Chile?

Chile is left-hand drive, so the 17 models below are the eligible ones. Ordering the wrong steering is the single most expensive mistake in vehicle importing — the unit cannot be registered and cannot economically be returned.

Common questions about importing to Chile

Does the China–Chile FTA cover these vehicles?

Chinese-origin goods generally enter duty-free under the agreement against a valid certificate of origin, leaving VAT as the main charge. The certificate has to be correct and correctly presented — a defective certificate of origin loses the preference entirely, and it is the most common avoidable cost in Chilean vehicle importing. We issue it with every shipment.

Which specification suits Andean mining at altitude?

The eTerron 9 4WD, decisively. An electric motor loses no power to thin air the way a naturally aspirated or turbocharged diesel does, and 700 Nm from standstill handles loaded mine-road gradients. Range falls on sustained climbing, so specify depot charging at the camp rather than relying on town infrastructure — though regeneration recovers a good share of it on the descent.

What does the Santiago circulation exemption mean for a fleet?

Electric vehicles have been exempt from the restricción vehicular rotation that takes conventional vehicles off Santiago's roads on assigned days. For a delivery or service fleet that is not a tax saving, it is a capacity saving — every vehicle works every day, which changes the fleet size needed to cover the same route set.
