Electric pickup truck export to Uganda

Uganda requires factory right-hand drive and a UNBS Pre-Export Verification of Conformity certificate issued before loading. Being landlocked, every vehicle routes through Mombasa or Dar es Salaam under a transit bond, which adds 5–10 days and a corridor haulage cost to the landed price.

What does Uganda require?

Steering
Right-hand drive
Pre-export certificate
UNBS PVoC certificate
Issuing body
Uganda National Bureau of Standards
Vehicle age rule
Age-based environmental levy applies to older vehicles — a 0 km unit avoids it
Ports and routing
Via Mombasa (Northern Corridor) or Dar es Salaam (Central Corridor), road to Kampala
Sea or rail transit
28–35 days sea to Mombasa, plus 4–7 days corridor road transit

How is duty assessed?

Uganda applies import duty, excise, VAT, withholding tax and an environmental levy that scales with vehicle age. The levy is the clearest advantage a new vehicle has here. Uganda has also pursued domestic electric vehicle industrial policy, which has at times carried incentives — confirm the current position before ordering.

We quote FOB China and CIF Uganda only — never landed cost, because a duty change between order and arrival would make that number wrong. Confirm the current rate with your clearing agent before committing to an order.

Who is buying MAXUS vehicles in Uganda?

Government and NGO fleets in and around Kampala, plantation and agri-processing estates, and utility field teams. Uganda's grid electricity is comparatively cheap against pump diesel, which shortens the total cost of ownership crossover point considerably.

Which models can be registered in Uganda?

Uganda is right-hand drive, so the 8 models below are the eligible ones. Ordering the wrong steering is the single most expensive mistake in vehicle importing — the unit cannot be registered and cannot economically be returned.

Common questions about importing to Uganda

Which corridor should I route through?

Mombasa and the Northern Corridor is usually faster and has denser car-carrier service; Dar es Salaam and the Central Corridor is sometimes cheaper and less congested. We quote CIF to either port and you choose — the corridor haulage is arranged by your clearing agent in both cases.

Does the Kenyan or Tanzanian certificate cover Uganda?

No. Transit through Mombasa or Dar es Salaam does not substitute for Uganda's own UNBS PVoC certificate, which must be issued in China before loading against the Ugandan consignee. Name Uganda as the final destination on the proforma invoice so the right certificate is arranged.

Is charging practical in Uganda?

For depot fleets, yes. An 11 kW three-phase supply charges either platform fully overnight and is standard on Ugandan commercial premises. Grid reliability varies, so fleets operating outside Kampala commonly pair the charge points with solar and storage, which also insulates against tariff changes.
